Are we broken beyond healing?
Scattered thoughts…
Proverbs 6:12-15 references wicked men who sow discord…essentially describing someone who is a shyster. The section ends describing how disaster will suddenly come upon him saying, “in a moment he will be broken beyond healing.”
Reading this scripture made think of a general thought… are we broken beyond healing?
The fact is, we are all damaged and broken in one way or another. We also know that we were born in sin (Psalm 51:5). But we need to move beyond those broken pieces of our character; and we cannot dwell in it where it becomes a part of character…eventually causing us to choose sin. 1 John 5:17 – informs us that “there is sin that does not lead to death.”
Choosing Him or Choosing sin…
God is merciful, and He wants us to be righteous. He also wants us to choose Him. To repent (Luke 5:32). Choosing sin equates to that brokenness beyond healing. It causes a spiritual death, one that destroys faith. And we are truly living during a challenging time… end times? The signs are indeed around us.
Being humble gives me perspective. It reminds me to reflect on the fact that Jesus teaches us the highest standard of living.
I began writing this devotional a couple of days ago, which I planned on completing today. After praying, before finishing up, I thought of an encounter that happened today. The part that stuck with me was the look of disbelief on a stranger’s face after a good deed; after a nice gesture that was done—just because. It briefly made me feel like there is no longer an expectation of compassion or thoughtfulness in this world.
Despite what you encounter in this life…choose to live righteously. Choose compassion and kindness. Desire to be humble. Maintain a higher standard of living. Reflect on Christ and choose Him.

The encounter…
I was out with our youngest daughter today, sitting in a waiting room while she was being fingerprinted (for a new job). A woman walks in needing a couple of documents notarized. As the gentleman behind the counter was reviewing the documents, she noticed the sign above stating cash or money order (I believe). Almost panicked, she clarifies the sign with the notary stating that she only had $6 dollars cash. Overhearing, I asked what the balance was, and since I had a few singles in my purse, I offered the difference. I typically don’t carry cash much anymore, but I remembered having the money and it was enough to cover what she needed. She looked at me in disbelief and rejected the offer as I reached into my purse. “I insist, it’s no problem at all,” I said. So, I walked up, placed the cash on the counter and briskly walked back to my seat. She continued to look at me in disbelief, almost stuck before thanking me. I restated, “really, it’s no problem at all.”
I initially had no intention on even sharing this story, it was just a small act of kindness. Hell, I didn’t even mention it to my husband when I saw him later in the evening after work. I filed it away as just doing a nice thing, no big deal.
After reflecting, I decided to share the encounter, because of the thought of current societal expectations. Let us continue to be kind rather than selfish… or broken. Love wins in the end.

That’s a lovely story. 😀
Thank you!
You’re welcome!
I have a similar experience but in the opposite direction – when I see abusive behavior toward a vulnerable child or animal and confront the person – I’m shocked at the silence from everyone else witnessing it go down and the expression on the person’s face as if they have never been confronted before regarding their cruel behavior.
